Is the Ulike Air 10 the safe, fast, permanent solution to hair removal we’ve all been looking for?
Hair removal with IPL—intense pulsed light—has been getting a lot of attention in skincare circles. It’s clinically proven to target pigment in the hair follicle, heating it, and over time, destroying it (similar to laser).
The best part? You can do IPL at home. The hardest part? Deciding between dozens of options. We’ve tested Braun, Philips, Nood, and Silk’n devices. But when we checked out the tech on Ulike’s brand new Air 10, we knew it could be a gamechanger.
We used the Ulike Air 10 ourselves, and evaluated it on 1) Efficacy over 4 weeks 2) Comfort 3) Features/Usability and 4) Price. Spoiler alert: It’s the best at-home hair removal device we’ve ever tested. Read on to find out why.
About our Reviewer, Catie
“I started shaving my coarse body hair at 15. I immediately struggled with irritation and ingrown hairs. I’ve tried waxing, of course, but it’s super painful, time consuming, and expensive. I’ve been searching for a gentler and less frequent solution ever since.”
We’ll get to the details with the Air 10, but you came here to see if it really works. The answer is YES—and it works faster and more comfortably than any other IPL device we’ve ever tested.
Catie’s Results (At Week 1, 2, 3, and 4)
I saw almost complete hair reduction in four weeks. Other IPL devices require 8 weeks or more.
I used the Air 10 on my underarm, legs, and arms 3x a week. Each session took 10 minutes or less. After the full 4 weeks, I’m actually shocked by my results. Weekly results below.
Week 1: After the first three sessions I was amazed to see stubble start “falling out.” That’s because the follicle has been destroyed. Remaining hair feels softer, especially on my underarms and legs. It’s also coming in slower. My stubble is less prickly.
Week 2: There’s already so much less hair to “zap”! My skin feels a bit tighter, I’m seeing fewer ingrown hairs, and less overall irritation! In fact, my legs almost seem to glow about a day after treatment.
Because IPL mildly heats deeper layers of skin, it’s actually proven to stimulate collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines, scars and wrinkles. I hope that’s happening!
Week 3: I’m seeing only minimal hair growth – in fact the health of my skin seems much improved: more moisturized, less blotchy, and some areas of hyperpigmentation on my legs have lightened.
Week 4 (full treatment): Overall, I’m SO pleased with my final results. I now rarely worry about hair growth – and that’s a really strange feeling! Any hair that does pop up is quite thin – my underarms, legs, and arms are smooth weeks after my last session. For now I just “spot-zap”, and I assume that most of those remaining hairs will disappear soon.
You’ve seen the results, now let’s get to the tech and using the device.
What Sets the Air 10 Apart
Dual Lights: The Air 10 is the only at-home IPL device I’ve seen that uses two light sources. That means a full body session takes only 10 minutes (vs. 20+ for typical IPL)
That’s because it has 65% more energy output than other leading IPL devices like Braun and Philips— making it the most powerful device on the market.
SHR Mode: SHR means “Super Hair Removal.” This mode is a quick series of 4 strong pulses, meant for really stubborn hair. I used this mode on my underarms. For finer hair, you can use fast, normal, or high mode. Autoglide pulses for you.
Ice Cooling: Yes, this might be the coolest tech the Air 10 has. Lights on other IPL devices get super hot (and really uncomfortable) after just a few minutes. The Air 10 surface actually stayed cold—not just room temp—for the entirety of each session.
Using the Ulike Air 10
Before buying, make sure your skin tone and contrast is a fit!
And before starting, test a small area of skin to avoid adverse effects. It’s important to see how your skin reacts to any new products!
The Air 10 is fairly ergonomic. While large, it fit well in my palm. I used it the recommended 3x per week, usually Sun / Wed / Fri. You should shave before every treatment to allow the device to penetrate the follicle. Using it on my underarms, legs, and arms took a total of 10 minutes.
Comfort
IPL zaps feel like a light rubber band snap – a little uncomfortable, but generally painless. The Ice-Cooling makes a huge difference vs. other IPL devices—almost like bringing an ice cube along for the ride.
Right after treatment, my skin was sensitive, particularly my underarms and arms, but it pales in comparison to the nicks of shaving or pain of waxing.
Price
The Air 10 is cheaper than comparable IPL devices from Braun and Philips, but more expensive than basic devices from Silk’n or Nood.
For us, the cost ($279 with TCD discount), is more than justified. With Dual Lights, SHR, and Ice-Cooling:
- IPL sessions take half as much time (10 min vs 20 min for other devices)
- The total process is half as long (4 weeks vs 8 weeks)
- The price is a fraction of the long-term costs of shaving, waxing, or laser
Final Thoughts
The Ulike Air 10 is the best IPL device on the market. And with almost complete hair removal in 1 month, for just 30 minutes a week—it may just be the best at home hair removal solution we’ve ever reviewed.
