I’m a first-time mom to my 9-month-old, Ellie, who started experiencing diaper rash at 3 months. And that’s how I quickly learned the importance of absorbency and clean materials when it comes to preventing diaper rash – not to mention comfort and (both of our) sleep! So I made it my mission to find a diaper that actually uses clean, safe materials and can handle the demands of a cranky newborn.

After hours of research and consulting with my pediatrician – Dr. Leah Alexanderone brand stood out: Coterie.  I’ve used Coterie’s The Diaper for the past six months, and now, I can’t imagine putting Ellie in anything else. Read on to find out why Coterie is my pick for the best truly non-toxic diaper.

What To Look For In A Diaper

By age 3, most babies have spent over 24,000 hours in diapers! So it became pretty important to me that Ellie's diapers were safe and chemical-free. And the risks are real: diapers are not FDA regulated, and a study of 31 disposable diaper brands found that many contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including carcinogens.1

I asked Dr. Alexander, my pediatrician, what to look for in a diaper: “Materials such as non-bleached pulp and polypropylene are ideal; avoid chlorine, dioxins, and other harsh chemicals,” says Dr. Alexander.

Does Coterie meet these requirements? Yes – and that’s why it’s my pick for the safest diaper brand.

Clean Materials & Safety

The dangers of chlorine in diapers are well-documented2 –  it’s a skin irritant and harmful if ingested or inhaled. Coterie stands out as one of the few truly Total Chlorine Free (TCF) diapers (third party verified3). Even other popular “clean” brands – like Millie Moon and Honest – are only Elemental Chlorine-Free (ECF), meaning they still include chlorine derivatives.

In fact, Coterie has a sparkling clean ingredient list:

  • No chlorine bleaching
  • No fragrance
  • No lotion
  • No latex
  • No rubber
  • No dyes
  • No alcohol
  • No heavy metals
  • No parabens
  • No phthalates
  • No pesticides
  • No VOCs
  • No optical brighteners
  • …and free of dozens of other chemicals

And that’s why Coterie is my pick for the cleanest, safest diaper on the market

I love how safe and non-toxic Coterie products are

Absorbency & Softness

Ellie's diaper rash started at just three weeks old, and I learned that the constant dampness of her old “premium” diaper was the problem. Coterie claims to be up to 70% more absorbent than other diaper brands – and TCD’s absorbency test confirmed that! Coterie’s lining wicks liquid from the surface so quickly, and feels super dry to the touch. Within a week of starting with Coterie’s The Diaper, Ellie's diaper rash faded from raw and bright red to nonexistent.

With the best absorbency of any diaper brand I looked at, Coterie is the clear choice for keeping Ellie's bottom dry, comfortable, and free from diaper rash.

But What About Wipes?

I asked my pediatrician for her recommendations on wipes. She recommended looking for wipes that are free of dyes and fragrances, include moisturizers to protect a baby’s skin, and are low pH.”

Coterie offers two options – The Wipe that’s 99% water, and the new Soft Wipe that’s infused with emollients and moisturizers (glycerin, dimethicone, glyceryl stearate, and cetyl palmitate) for extra-sensitive skin. Both help maintain a low skin pH, which protects against irritation and diaper rashes.

The Soft Wipe was perfect for Ellie when she was recovering from her diaper rash. And we’ve since moved onto the regular Wipe.

Conclusion

With Coterie, Ellie's diaper rash resolved in days. I’m confident I’m making the best choice for her health and safety – a choice backed by my pediatrician: Coterie’s diapers are a true ‘clean ingredient’ product.” says Dr. Alexander.

Using Coterie has given me more confidence as a mom, and taken a few big worries off my plate. Ready to try it for yourself? Use code CUSTOMERDIGEST10 to get 10% off and save even more when you bundle.
