OB/GYNs agree: before you try for a baby, it’s critical to consume the right nutrients.1 Fertility support supplements go beyond prenatal vitamins by specifically boosting fertility and preparing your body for pregnancy.

With the help of our Registered Dietitian and fertility expert, Vanessa Dyer (RDN), we reviewed three top fertility supplements: Perelel’s Conception Support Pack, Ritual’s Prenatal Multivitamin, and Premama’s Fertility Support for Her.

We answer: is a fertility support supplement worthwhile (yes!). And evaluated each on: 1) ingredients, 2) quality, 3) expertise, and 4) convenience. Read on to learn why Perelel was the clear overall winner in our hands-on comparison test.

What to Look for in Fertility Support Supplements

Good fertility support supplements go beyond prenatal vitamins. They provide vital nutrients for a healthy pregnancy, but also contain ingredients proven to boost fertility. “Take them as soon as you’ve decided to conceive,” advises Dyer, our registered dietician.

According to Dyer, the best fertility support supplements contain:

🤰 Folate: Vital for a healthy neural tube and spinal cord, which helps prevent birth defects.2

🪺 CoQ10: A powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that protects and improves the quality of a woman’s eggs.

🧠 Omega-3 DHA and EPA: Support your baby’s brain development. EPA is also involved in placental transport and the absorption of DHA.3

💚 Selenium: An antioxidant that helps protect the embryo from harmful free radicals that cause fertility problems.

💪 Iron: Supports healthy blood production and development of the placenta.4

💊 Vitamins A, B-complex, C, D, E, and K: These broad-based vitamins support general maternal health and the development of the embryo and fetus.

“Prenatal supplements lack CoQ10, Selenium, and the full spectrum of vitamins needed for a healthy embryo and ovulation. Look for supplements designed specifically for the conception stage,” Dyer tells us.

We reviewed Ritual, Perelel, and Premama’s conception support supplements

Now, let’s take a look at how Perelel, Ritual, and Premama fertility supplements compare.

Ingredients:

Perelel Wins on Both Breadth and Depth of Nutrients

We summarize each brand's dosages below:

Perelel covers all the bases to support fertility and conception. It is the only option with CoQ10 and Selenium to promote egg health and fertility, and includes both Omega DHA and EPA. It also contains all of the important vitamins: B6, B12, D3, A, C, E, and K2. Finally, it has the most folate of all three options.

Ritual comes second, containing about half of the nutrients important for fertility. Notably, Ritual does not differentiate between prenatal and conception support. Instead, they take a “one-size fits all” approach to your entire pregnancy journey, one our registered dietician does not recommend.

Finally, even though Premama makes a vitamin tailored for conception; it is surprisingly lacking in nutrients, containing only four ingredients: Folate, Vitamin B12, Myo-Inositol, and Maltodextrin.

Premama’s Conception Support for Her contains just four ingredients

⚖️ Myo-Inositol can support hormone balance in women with PCOS and diabetes risk factors.

📈 Maltodextrin is a highly-processed, high-calorie powder sweetener. With the risk of allergic reaction and blood sugar spikes, we recommend avoiding.5

Perelel wins easily on its high quality, fertility-specific ingredients.

Quality:

It’s a Tie Between Perelel and Ritual

We feel confident in the quality and transparency of the ingredients behind Perelel and Ritual. Although the FDA does not regulate dietary supplements, both brands follow the FDA’s current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and utilize third-party testing.

Ritual focuses on traceability (i.e. where the ingredients are sourced). They test their product during each stage of production.

Perelel triple-tests each batch of its product for purity, safety, and quality. Each order contains clinically-backed ingredients that exceed USP microbiological standards.

Additional ingredient info can be found on each brand’s website.

Expertise:

Perelel Wins as the Only Supplement Founded by an OB/GYN

Ritual was founded by a mother frustrated by the pseudoscience of mass-produced products.

Premama is a venture by a serial entrepreneur and businessman.

Perelel was developed by an OB/GYN, Dr. Banafsheh Bayati, who recognized that pregnancy supplements are not a one-size fits all approach: women's developmental and hormonal changes throughout pregnancy impact their nutritional needs.6,7

Perelel’s Conception Support Pack was formulated with top reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Andy Huang, MD, FACOG (who helped the Kardashians and Chrissy Teigen with their fertility journeys!).

Convenience

Perelel’s and Premama’s Daily Packs Make Things Simple

Daily packs of conception supplements are helpful for keeping track of intake.

Perelel and Premama products come in daily packs, great for your commute or travel. Ritual comes in a less handy plastic bottle.

Perelel’s dose is 5 small pills, contained within recyclable packaging. Premama is a maltodextrin-based powder, for mixing in liquid. Our testers noted a slightly chunky but tolerable consistency when taking Premama. For women who can’t tolerate multiple pills, it's an alternative.

Premama’s maltodextrin-based powder requires mixing in water

The Verdict is in: Perelel is the Best Fertility-Specific Supplement

Perelel is the best option for fertility support based on our two most important factors: efficacy and quality. It’s also convenient, and is the only major supplement of its kind to be created by an OB/GYN.

“Perelel contains all of the important nutrients needed for healthy conception and fertility,” says Dyer, our prenatal dietician. “I recommend Perelel Conception Support to my clients trying to conceive. It’s research-backed, evidence based, and OB/GYN-led.”
